    Knee Injury Prevention

    The three basic knee injury prevention tips are stretch, strengthen, and stop. These tips are not designed to increase performance, but rather keep the goal of preventing injury in the forefront of your mind.

    Stretching begins with flexibility or getting the blood flowing throughout the surrounding muscles of the knee such as; the hip, thigh, hamstring, groin, glutes, and knee flexors and extensors. Flexibility declines with age and can be tough to regain. It is best to keep a constant daily routine of stretching. Since knee injuries, aches and pain are one of the most common injuries and physical ailments; Incrediwear’s Knee Sleeve maintains the ability to increase circulation, which can help when it comes to stretching.

    The Incrediwear Knee Sleeve is flexible, allowing for the knee to bend slowly during stretching exercises. Proper stretching before exercising or just in general allows the knees to remain flexible during movement and through every day activities. 

    Next, to help prevent knee injury is strengthening. Strengthening the knee, begins with working the muscles around it, specifically in the hip, thigh, glutes, knee extensors, and the knee joint. Strengthening lower leg muscles such as the ankle plantar-flexors & dorsi-flexors is also recommended. 

    While the traditional ways to strengthen these areas is by utilizing free weight exercises or weight machines, there are some key exercises you can do right in your office or home when you can’t get to the gym. You can use body exercises such as squats, wall squats or lunges. Use caution when doing all these exercises, as form is very important to not cause self-injury. If you have knee problems already, and are looking to work on strengthening your knees, we recommend doing these techniques with Incrediwear Knee Sleeves.

For example, if you are looking to do wall squats, but are unable to squat down at a 45 to 90-degree angle; we recommend wearing our Knee Sleeve and simply starting where you feel comfortable.     Finally, know when stop.     Luis Garcia is a rising athlete in the boxing profession, and is one of Incrediwear’s new ambassadors. Garcia was raised in Ixtlán Del Río, Mexico, but was originally born in Juneau, Alaska. At age 11, he moved back to the states and began his boxing career at age 17. He identifies as an Alaska-Mexican Boxer.

    Garcia’s determination and dedication to the sport has made him rise to become a local star in Juneau, Alaska. His fighting style can somewhat mimic the out-fighter style, which boxers like Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, Benny Leonard, and Gene Tunney are known for. But Garcia considers “his style” more of a mix between Mexican and his favorite boxer, Canelo Alvarez, who tends to lean toward the boxer-puncher and counterpuncher styles.
     
    Whatever people believe Garcia’s style is, the fact is it’s working extremely well in the ring. With a 23-3-0 record so far, Garcia’s continued success is moving him to take the next step in his career by fighting outside of Alaska.

    On November 17, 2016, Garcia sent Incrediwear a video of him training with an Incrediwear Calf Sleeve testifying “been abusing the calf sleeve and it’s been doing me wonders!” The process of watching some Garcia’s bouts was such a treat for the Incrediwear organization that the decision was quickly made to bring Garcia onboard.

    Incrediwear features our newest ambassador, Maria Tviberg, this week as a rising star in her discipline. Tviberg is a Norwegian Alpine Skier, who competes for the national team of Norway. She moved to Geilo at age 14 with her family in order to ski more.
     
    “My family has sacrificed a lot to get me to where I am today,” Tviberg said. “In my spare time I like to use my time with my family and friends, and I also have a dog who I love being with.” 
     
    Alpine (AKA downhill) skiing highlights competitors to race down snow covered slopes on skis with fixed heel bindings. Skiers follow the fall line down the slope’s steepest direction, trying to beat the fastest time of other skiers. As a result, many accidents happen from a skier’s miscalculation, resulting in an isolated fall. Knee injuries account for over 30% of Alpine skiing injuries.

    Despite being quite young, Maria has dealt with numerous injuries over the years. However, she keeps a positive attitude because she believes when you are positive, anything is possible.
